Loaded Time | Napunjeno vrijeme

History does not appear as a completed fact, but as something that continuously repeats, never in the same form. It emerges through cracks, through fragments that survive after their own time is done, and through “coughing ants” - „mrave koji kašlju“.

Napunjeno vrijeme is not merely an echo of the song by the band Paraf from their album Zastave, whose title refers to Miroslav Krleža’s novel of the same name. It is not nostalgia for a time gone by, but rather its remnant, still active in the present — something that continuously repeats, but never in the same form.

The book becomes a kind of humus — an organic, unique object, a bind and a document of different times and processes. Recycled pages, misprints, fragments of previous books and visual traces that no longer belong to a single whole become a ground for new images and raw records of the work and time in the present moment — 2025/2026, of the youth and a wider society who are taking to the streets and refusing the normalizing narrative.

Within the book, fragments from the books Čista zona, Tragovi, TOUCH, RITES OF MIRROR HIDDEN IN GRAVITY are intertwined with the moments like Chernobyl, Ukraine, and skateboarders who, in dialogue with their environment, are questioning the space and the wall.
On top of these fragments, new images are printed in red, blue and green, through accidental overlaps of Riso print layers of transformed environment — of the cement and the Palestinian situation as a linkage to a global perception of freedom and liberation.

Thus, the fragment becomes a visual moment where past and present meet, a space in which the image suddenly lights up.

Zastave by Paraf take place in 1984 in Rijeka, a port-industrial city in what was then Yugoslavia, in the atmosphere of the late Cold War, several years after Tito’s death, in the era of the Non-Aligned Movement and decolonization processes, amid growing global and local tensions.

“Maple, birch, thorn”
„Javor breza trn“
